Once in a Lifetime

August was a once in a lifetime experience. There have been various combinations of Bohalls that have visited the U.S. from Croatia. But this was the first, and perhaps the last time we went as a family of seven.

We began our trip in the Boston area, visiting Jeremy's family and seeing the Gordon College and Conwell campuses (where we met and were married), among other things.

We then spent two weekends with Jeremy's relatives in Brooklyn. Experiencing the Big Apple was a highlight for the kids.

In between the two weekends we made a quick trip down to Washington D.C.

During these first three weeks, we were joined by our pastor and his family - also (and still!) close friends of ours. This was the first time his wife and kids had been to the States. It was quite the adventure for the 11 of us to travel around the northeast. But of course these will be memories we will never forget.

Towards the end of our trip we visited good friends in Buffalo, NY where we experienced Niagra Falls, then went to Cooperstown.

Jeremy has always said family and friends are what he misses most about the States. During this trip we were able to reconnect with many of our friends - some who are not specifically mentioned here while introducing our children to some of the most important places and people in the U.S. We even got to take in a couple MLB ballgames - firsts for all of the kids.

It was certainly a trip to remember!

Chestnuts and Discipleship: A Fall Update

In small town Croatia, picking chestnuts is an autumn staple. Yesterday, I (Jeremy) had the opportunity to take a group of 5th through 7th graders from our church out chestnut picking. We've been meeting weekly ever since the school year started. When I asked what sort of activities they would like to do as a group, chestnut picking was one of the suggestions. Chestnuts grow inside a very well protected pouch which usually requires a knife to open. Most times there are three chestnuts inside each pouch. Early risers often find a bunch of chestnuts on the ground in the morning, but when we arrived in the afternoon most of them were already opened. Undeterred, one of us would shake the trees while the rest protected their heads. Once the chestnuts fell the kids raced to open the pouches as quickly as they safely could. Camp Week 1: Children's Camp

Camps are back! It's been 5 years and a lot of reconstruction since camps were last in Orahovica, but they are finally underway. As a way of helping you get a better idea of what camps are like, how we are involved and how you can pray, we will be updating this site once a week with details about each camp. Camp Week 1: Children's Camp - July 5th through the 10th - Ages 6 through 9 - the requirement is that each child has finished first grade and are able to read and write. - The price of camp is $40. - This year, more than others, fewer people were able to pay the registration fee. The camp policy is to accept everyone and usually outside donations help to cover the cost of paying for the kids who can't. This year we were in the minus to start camps, but during the second day of camp someone donated money to pay for 16 kids who were unable to which turned out to be the exact amount needed to erase the deficit. Exciting News

We're moving to Zagreb! In May we accepted an invitation to work with an evangelical church in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. We will be working with a young, vibrant evangelical church whose pastor we’ve known for more than ten years. This is an exciting opportunity for our family! Zagreb, Croatia Moving to the capital is significant for our kingdom work: Zagreb is Croatia’s leading city, a place where lots of young people go to college and begin their careers. A prominent leader recently said, “Where the people go, the gospel needs to go.” We are honored to serve alongside a pastor whose vision we share while filling a need for full-time workers.
